So, you're content just sitting at your computer looking at my picture? Are you serious? Get your butt up! Pick up the phone or something! Don't just look at my picture and think 'oh, he's cute.' Do something to enjoy this face everyday. You know the number...if you don't.....here....call 901-363-7233. If the human variety doesn't answer the phone, leave a message. Eventually they will call you back. Or, you can come out on the weekends. Every Saturday and Sunday we are open from 1-4 pm. Come see me, please. Don't just look at my picture from afar. Here's what those human people say about me... They haven't taught me to talk in your language. So, here is their interpretation. I can't answer the phone (or dial for help) So, you may need to just come up here. His name fits his personality perfectly. Bernie is a funny little character. He is approximately 8 years old and weighs 40 lbs. He only stands about 2 hands high. He was heart worm positive and has successfully gone through treatment. However, we do feel like he talks about us. We have tried to teach him our language. He just keeps standing by the front door and the phone making some weird dog noise. We're not sure what he's doing. If someone could help us understand him, please do. UPDATE 10/21/08 Bernie began limping. We took him to the Vet for them to discover he has a partially fused disk and arthritis. Bernie has his good days and his bad days. He is currently on anti- inflammatory and glucosamine supplements each day. Operating on Bernie is not an option. The surgery would be very expensive and not certain if it would offer him relief. Back surgery is very tricky. Sometimes a surgery on the spine is actually more dangerous than leaving it alone. For this reason and lack of resources for expensive surgery...we are keeping Bernie as comfortable as possible. Bernie may have many years left in him to live a comfortable, pain free, happy life....Bernie may only have months. Neither we, nor the Vet is certain what his little body is capable of. For Bernie's sake...we hope he doesn't die in a shelter. We hope and pray a loving family will adopt him. We will provide his medicines, his food, monthly heart worm prevention and follow up care with our Veterinarian...what we can't provide is a warm bed and a loving home. Please, we need your help. All pets adopted from Sunny Meadows will be fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, tested appropriately and verified negative (i.e. heartworm test or FIV/FeLV combo test) Many of our rescues arrive to us in critical need of costly medical procedures; heart worm treatment, orthopedic surgery and ophthalmologic surgery, just to name a few. Many rescued pets need behavior modification and socialization skills. We go to great lengths to ensure the health and well being of our pets.
