Doberman Pinscher - Large - Adult - Male - Dog - Mickey Rourke

Mickey Rourke is a Doberman Pinscher mix who was found by a Good Dog Volunteer on a very short chain at a known 'doggy dumping ground.' Emaciated (at 53 lbs, about half of what he should weigh) when we found him, Mickey Rourke has gained some respectable weight and now weighs 95 lbs. He was heartworm positive and has now completed his heartworm treatment. He'll also be neutered when he has gained some weight. Mickey takes EVERY step his foster mom does and is extraordinarily loving considering his rough existence before coming into rescue. He is good with all the other foster animals in his foster home. If you want a calm, sweet, loving large companion, Mickey Rourke is the dog for you. Mickey Rourke is a gentle giant. He is very docile and would be great in a home that had children. He is in need of a sponsor for some or all of his medical needs and a quiet foster or forever home in which to recover after his heartworm treatment is begun. We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
