German Shepherd Dog - Large - Young - Female - Dog - Bella Victo
Meet Bella Victoria Though Bella is just under two years old, her life has really only just begun. We're fighting for her ultimate victory over the serious neglect she suffered for the first years of her life. Prior to her rescue, she had been kept outside in a tiny cage in the sun and in the mud with barely enough room to turn around. She was given no socialization or human contact except to be fed now and again. She did not know human affection, what a toy was or even how to run. Bella is so smart and eager to learn; and she has such a sweet and humble heart. She is currently being fostered in Memphis. Bella Victoria has now been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, groomed and is parasite free. None of Bella's photos do her beauty any justice. She looked extra scruffy here as these photos were only taken on her second day of her new life. Her face is light red and golden/bronze; it looks washed out here. She's also a lot shinier now, and less skinny, although she still needs to gain another 10 to 15 pounds. She is eating well, learning how to be a beloved companion, and will continue to thrive with all the TLC she is now receiving. Her foster mother writes, "She has become extremely attached, and is very affectionate. This is miraculous, since she didn't previously know how to receive affection and would occasionally fear-nip when handled certain ways. She's obviously been beaten, and takes to men a little more than women. She was fed by a man in the past, and may have beaten by his wife. Both my husband and I (and apparently our neighbors) can now touch her freely and not expect to get nipped. However, I wouldn't trust her with children unless she has the opportunity to get socialized with them before adoption. She has learned to trust humans in general, but we have not had her around children." Bella is crate trained, and generally potty trained, but will need an experienced handler and lots of work on being around other dogs. Either life as an only dog or with a male canine companion would be best but she is still not sure about doggie manners and sometimes nips at anything that moves quickly past her face. Bella should not be adopted to a family with cats." This lovely girl has been named Bella Victoria because she is extraordinarily beautiful and she achieved victory over her captivity on the fourth of July weekend. Bella Victoria means beautiful victory. If you are interested in adopting a new family member from our organization, please complete the online adoption application. It is the first step to bringing home your new family member. All dogs listed as ADOPTABLE are indeed still available.
