adoption fee reduced to $50 Fred (and his sister, Ginger) are siblings of Lil Mo. We think they are terrier/ bassett mixes. Fred and Ginger weigh about 20 lbs. They are heartworm negative and neutered (Fred)/ spayed (Ginger). They are not microchipped. These dogs were so afraid of people that they would urinate all over themselves if you went to pick them up. Their sister, Lil Mo, came to Memphis first and thrives in foster care.She is very acclimated to home life but loves other dogs and is shy with people. She is very affecionate to her foster mom. So far Fred has been in foster care a little over one month. He is still skittish but approaches me for feeding and if I sit still he will come up and be slightly touched before running off. He still wont come in the house, but if I come into HIS storage room spot, once he cant go any further he seems to be happy to be still so I can pet him. Fred will play with other dogs and he is not noisy in the yard, but he has no interest in coming inside. I don't think he will ever really bond with a human unless he learns to come into the house. I guess if someone spends a LOT of time outside and has a secure fence with a shelter, and another receptive dog, Fred is one who might be happy to live outside. We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
