Beautiful Burial Plot in the historic Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 5668 Poplar Avenue at Yates Road. This plot can be used for two burials, double depth burials, for the cemetery's charge of 1/2 the current cost of similar plots.

I recently had to bury a loved one and was shocked and unprepared at the cost, which was well over $20,000. Although the funeral plan I selected was in the medium range, when all the Funeral Home charges were totaled, they were almost $13,000. The headstone was an additional $6,800 (for a double headstone). Then the Cemetery charged $1,500 more for the interment, etc. Fortunately we already had cemetery plots, purchased many years ago or there would have been an additional cost of around $4,000. The Funeral Home's policy is 'payment is due and payable as of the date of the arrangements contract', which means _before_ the funeral. We had been advised years ago against prepaid funerals because of the scandals and were told that an insurance policy would be a safer investment. So, we had insurance policies to cover the funeral and burial costs, but the funeral home staff is 'not authorized' to delay payment for insurance benefits to be paid - their policy is payment now. The Funeral Home did accept credit cards and fortunately between my children and me, we were able to pay all the charges that day and didn't have to delay the funeral. I have included our story so others might not be caught as unaware and unprepared as we were at such a sad time.

Buying burial plots is a decision that can be made ahead of time. If you wait until they are needed, they are more expensive. All burial costs must be paid prior to the loved one's funeral. This is one way to save a little beforehand and not having to pay more, while grieving the death of a loved one. This burial plot is located on a beautiful sloping hillside in Section E. This is an older, established and preferred location of the cemetery. The plot is very close to the world famous Crystal Shrine Grotto, built by artist Dionicio Rodriguez in the 1930s. This unique handmade cave of Bible scenes is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The plot for sale is next to the grave with yellow roses in the pictures. The graves, plots and lots in this beautiful cemetery are well cared. The Funeral Home is located on the site. The Cemetery's current selling price for plots in this area is around $4000 - I'm asking $3000 and will pay all transfer fees. The Funeral Home will handle the transfer of the deed.
